About

Artist currently based in Edinburgh. Studied Fine Art at Northumbria University and completed a Masters in Modern and Contemporary Art: History, Curation and Criticism at The University of Edinburgh.

Writing and the history of art have always been integral to my experience of both my own and others’ artwork. As a result, the two mediums have been close parallels throughout my practice, with one often informing the other. I grew up abroad, which from an early age exposed me to different cultures; spending early years in Norway and more formative ones in the Middle East. This shift from Western to Middle Eastern culture greatly impacted my artistic practice and the way in which I understood cultural relationships to each other and to ourselves.

As a result, my artwork primarily explores the human body; how bodies inhabit space, how space inhabits us and the rhythms and movements that compose gestural language. I am also interested in cultural representations and presentations of the body; both within my own artwork and throughout art history.  I find the dual narratives of the female body fascinating, as bodily representations range from liberal sexualisation to  shame, taboos, silence and more hidden narratives of the abject. Within my work I utilise drawing, mixed media and oil paint to explore these ideas of the hidden and revealed human form.
